For both propane and natural gas; if you are using liquid propane, an air mixer is required. You can add some lava rocks and fire glass to fill the pan and enjoy a nice realistic fire and ample heat in the backyard on a cool evening. We recommend 30 lbs fire glass for this pan (Fireglass not included).
